Additional Pictures and Testimonials!
The Chamber also donates around the holidays to either an organization such
as Toys for Tots OR a needy family,

Here is a thank you note from one of our happy recipiants:

Dear Long Lake Chamber,

We would like to thank you for sponsoring us thru the Christmas Season!
Thanks for your generous gifts, our 10 year old and our 8 year old had a great Christmas! the gift certificate was such a nice suprise and we are truly grateful for your organization reaching out to help others who are struggling.

This is our first year in Wisconsin. we moved here from Georgia and the children
have been home schooled. OUr move here last July, along wiht their first entry into a public schollo system has made amny changes for them. Each day here seems to be such a wonder; the climate, longer drives to town, new friends, new strange wildlife (like deer and a bear at the edge of the road)(things they never came across in Alanta), SNOW, lakes, snowmobiles, public school and so many stars in the sky! The trucks out on a frozen lake bring screeches of excitement everytime we see them out on the lakes. It is a shock to imagine driving a heavey truck out onto a frozen lake and BELEIVE that it won't fall
through! Two days ago, they came across strange prints in the snow and it has been the topic os discussion ever since.

We are so excited being closer to family here in Wisconsin. The school system
is so well run and offers such a high standard, we felt so excited to be able to move the children into a public shcool setting!

They have required a lot more winter clothes thean we dream would be necessary, and again we want to thank you organization for the gift certificate which made it possible.

Sincerely,

(name left out for sake of privacy)

Can anyone help this lady?

Hello, My name is Kay Havercamp & I live in Colorado. My husband and I are planning a vacation in Northwest Wisconsin next spring & I would love to stay at my grandparent's old resort but I have no idea if the property is still a resort.

My grandparents, Alex and Lillian Smith (both deceased) owned a resort on Long Lake in the 1960's and early 70's which they sold in either 1977 or 1978. Alex Smith had retired to the area after a career with the Milwaukee Police Force. The name of their resort was Alex Smith's Lodge & the only address I have is the old mailing address of Route 1 Box 174, Sarona Wisconsin. I remember the property being down the road from Marawaraden Resort, but not much else aside from the buildings. They had a large farm style home (clapboard) which they ran like a bed-and-breakfast & there was also one log sided cottage near the lake shore. They must have had a liquor license because there was a full bar in the house.

Is there some way of researching old records or speaking to your Chamber members to see if this property is still a resort? As I said, I would love to visit the property again; I haven't been there in 35 years! Can you help me?

Respectfully,

Kay Havercamp

A Long Lake Ice Fishing Story! Submitted by Amy Hanson

My son and husband caught this monster Northern on Long Lake on February 22,2003 It weighed 22 lbs and was 44 inches long. Our son, Dylan Hanson age 8, hooked the Northern on the tip-up and started to pull it in, then he called to his dad Tim "dad I think it's a big one". So dad took over bringing it in. It took four runs for him to get it to the bottom of the hole, then he got an idea of how big it was! As he was bringing it through the hole the line broke and he had to give it a kick or it would have went back down. After they had it safely away from the hole they were high fiving each other and cheering so much that a fellow who live on the lake came down and took this picture. It is thanks to him that we have this great picture. Any way, just thought you might be interested in this picture since it is such an awsome fish and was caught on your lake! In about 6 months we will have it back from the taxidermist and it will be on our sons wall. Thanks for growing such great fish!!

Longing For Long Lake

My best moments in youth were spent upon your waters.
May I return sometime with sons and daughters.
Some day soon over you the sun and moon,
To arise once more to the sound of the loon.

GPR

I miss Long Lake as I miss my departed family members. There is something special about this area. Yes, having key childhood memories tied to the place has added the power of the draw, but there seems to be so much more.

Some day soon I hope to return. It has already been too many years. My family used to own the Bogyville Resort, a small fishing and hunting lodge. It has been years since any of my family have lived upon your shores. Betty Bogy was the last surviving member, God rest all their souls. Walter, Rose, Betty, Francine, and William.

Keep in touch. As I run accross old photos I shall try to digitize them and email them.

Sincerely,

Grieg P. Ragen member VOLTAGE, the Rock Band and Construction 4 You

PS: I have been to the jungle, the desert, the gulf and south pacific. In my eyes I have never seen greater beauty than Long Lake in Washburn County, just different.
